The Motherhood Foundation (MFI) and The Association For Research On Mothering (ARM) have begun work to establish a world-class International Museum Of Motherhood to promote the new field of motherhood studies and the evolution of family, while honoring the achievements of women who are mothers in perpetuity.  Ongoing activities  include a broad reaching campaign of exhibits, displays, projects, literary works, films and internet outreach to display of the initial phases of The Museum Of Motherhood and to build momentum and generate a wave of interest that will increase the financial momentum necessary to realize this vision. Our academic committee is forming now. Find out more here.

The Motherhood Foundation and ARM are currently poised to move the museum forward in decisive ways. To achieve its mission to preserve, collect and interpret related materials and information, specific to mothers who have made a difference in education, literature, arts, music, and politics, the Foundation recognizes that it must make plans for the facility’s future. The  strategic plan for the museum envisions a variety of exciting prospects: members and a general public that are aware of and support the museum, educational programs and exhibits that engage all who view them, special events and conventions, and a superlative collection that is well administered. These goals will be realized through the prudent management and steady increase of financial, administrative, and personnel resources and over the next three years will enable The Motherhood Foundation and ARM to make The Museum Of Motherhood the best it can be.

Keep coming back to the site for updates and information.  In the meantime, please visit our registry of mothers!

Congressional Resolution Designating the Month of March as "Women's History Month"

NWHP Month

Every year, the President issues a special Women's History Month Proclamation. The following resolution can be used as a model for your local school district or city council.

Whereas American women of every race, class, and ethnic background have made historic contributions to the growth and strength of our Nation in countless recorded and unrecorded ways;

Whereas American women have played and continue to playa critical economic, cultural, and social role in every sphere of the life of the Nation by constituting a significant portion of the labor force working inside and outside of the home;

Whereas American women have played a unique role throughout the history of the Nation by providing the majority of the volunteer labor force of the Nation;

Whereas American women were particularly important in the establishment of early charitable, philanthropic, and cultural institutions in our Nation;

Whereas American women of every race, class, and ethnic background served as early leaders in the forefront of every major progressive social change movement;

Whereas American women have been leaders, not only in securing their own rights of suffrage and equal opportunity, but also in the abolitionist movement, the emancipation movement, the industrial labor movement, the civil rights movement, and other movements, especially the peace movement, which create a more fair and just society for all; and

Whereas despite these contributions, the role of American women in history has been consistently overlooked and undervalued, in the literature, teaching and study of American history:

Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, that March is designated as "Women's History Month. II The President is authorized and requested to issue a proclamation for each of these months, calling upon the people of the United States to observe those months with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities.

~ This resolution was passed by Congress in 1987 and successive years since then.
